Privacy & Data Protection
Privacy, patient control and data minimisation are being built into LymphAware from the beginning.
LymphAware is being developed to help people living with lymphoedema communicate information they have chosen to share.
This makes careful handling of personal information an essential part of the service rather than something added later.
As LymphAware develops, decisions about the patient portal, QR-linked profiles and supporting technology will continue to be considered from a privacy and data-protection perspective.
LymphAware is being designed around three important principles: collect only what is genuinely needed, protect the information entrusted to the service, and give patients meaningful control over what they choose to make available.
The information held within a patient account and the information a patient chooses to display through their QR-linked profile are not the same thing.
Account information will be protected and used only where necessary to provide and manage the LymphAware service.
Patients will choose which relevant information they want to make available through their QR-linked LymphAware profile.
The patient portal is being designed so patients can preview what another person will see when their LymphAware profile is opened.
A LymphAware profile may contain information about a person's lymphoedema and related needs that they have chosen to make available.
The handling of this information will form an important part of LymphAware's privacy, security and data-protection work before patient testing begins.
LymphAware is still in development. Detailed arrangements for processing real patient information will be completed and documented before the patient pilot begins.
This will include appropriate privacy information explaining what information is collected, why it is used, how long it is retained, who it may be shared with and the rights available to individuals.
Privacy and security arrangements will also be reviewed as the technical architecture for the patient portal is finalised.
LymphAware is being developed on the principle that personal information should only be collected or displayed where there is a clear reason for doing so.
